Gurkha Kukri Plus

The Kukri blade, with its markedly downward curved blade, has long been identified with the Gurkha Warriors of Nepal, the ferocious mercenaries who have wielded this blade for over 150 years in the service of the British Empire. The Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri was inspired by Cold Steel President, Lynn C. The issue most people have with a utility knife is weakness. Weak locking mechanisms, thin brittle blades, and an inability to do hard work. Cold Steel has addressed this problem and created a utility knife that’s all about strength. And, it’s affordably priced! The Click-N-Cut, (patent pending) features elements that are based on our extremely strong, Tri-Ad® lock, so it’s built for strenuous cutting chores. It comes complete with three interchangeable blades. There is a drop point blade and serrated and plain edged versions of our utility blade. The blades are double the thickness of most blades on the market, so they can stand up to the most strenuous cutting, scoring, scraping and gouging tasks you can imagine. Exchanging a blade is easy. Our new improved Japanese Training Swords are closely modeled after our world-famous Warrior series swords. Featuring an intricately detailed imitation cord wrap grip - molded in high impact polypropylene - they offer superior grip and comfort as well as more realistic training potential for the modern Martial Artist. Hundreds of years ago, the Japanese discovered a simple truth; that to become a good swordsman you'll have to practice, a great deal. To become a great swordsman you’ll have to practice with a "live blade". And during the period between "good" and "great", you should spend your time building your skills and confidence enough to wield a razor sharp Katana safely and effectively. To accomplish this, the Japanese relied on a simple wooden sword called a "bokken" for much of their training. It was made from the super tough wood of the Japanese White Oak, a wood they called Kashi. The swords produced from this wood had the advantage of replicating the size, weight and feel of a steel sword, while minimizing the possibility of causing grievous or permanent injury to those who used it. For over a century, most of the Western world has remained convinced that a point-oriented, thrusting sword is superior to an edge-oriented cutting sword. There are, however, a series of books by D.A. Kinsley that cast a sceptical light on this running debate. Kinsley recounts numerous incidents (collected form battlefields throughout the British Empire) where cutting swords proved equal, if not superior, to thrusting swords in deciding the outcome of a skirmish. Cold Steel’s president, Lynn C. Thompson was encouraged by Mr. Kinsley's ideas and after considering all the evidence decided to produce one of the best cutting swords ever devised: The Indian Talwar. Taking a cue from the most experienced Indian Swordsmen of the past, and the Pindari chief of old, Amir Khan, Lynn has combined a strongly curved British Light Cavalry blade with its distinctive hatchet point (wider near the tip than the forté) with a traditionally styled Indian hilt. Woodsman's Sax

Did you know that the name of the Saxon race was derived from the knife they carried? Its true the Sax knife was so important in their daily lives that an entire people became known by it. So, what was so special about this knife that it endured from the from the 6th to the 12th century? The answer is, it was easy and cheap to make and incredibly versatile and effective. Usually found without a guard, with a simple wood or bone hilt it offered a long wide, thick blade with a straight edge and a sloping point (easy to forge). This made it just about ideal as it chopped, sliced, hacked, whittled and carved and was no slouch in a fight as the weight forward balance of the blade and sloping point made ferocious chopping and thrusting strokes effortless. Over the years we have become quite enamored with the history and work potential of the sax so we decided to make a simple version we call the Woodsman’s Sax. Like some historical saxes that have survived, the Woodsman’s features a stout 11” long blade with the characteristic sloping point and an unadorned wooden handle made from exotic imported hardwood. Its appearance and martial spirit were so unique and impressive that it warranted being reproduced for Cold Steel's customers. Thompson Saber

The Thompson Saber is not a historical or period-specific sword, rather it is a newly developed, thoroughly modern fighting saber. Designed by Cold Steel President Lynn C Thompson, and bearing his name, the Thompson Saber was created to Lynn's exact specifications. Having studied and trained in Western, Japanese and Filipino fighting arts for decades, Lynn has sparred with everything from short lightweight machetes to two handed broadswords. The Thompson Saber combines all of Lynn's favorite traits from a wide range of sources. Lynn said: "I wanted to make a battle sword. Not a dueling sword as such, but a true sword fighter's sword for the modern martial artist. I believe that the edge is superior to the point when facing multiple opponents. You have more opportunities to defend, counter, riposte and move without becoming transfixed on an opponent for a vital second - therefore, while it does thrust well, the Thompson Saber is a cutting tool first and foremost, on foot or on horseback. In South Africa, an inexpensive ring lock folder is sold everywhere. It´s a good design, but it´s constructed from sub-standard materials, is poorly made, and is horribly overpriced. And yet, millions of these knives are sold there each year. Well, we thought we could do better, in the quality of materials, cutting performance, and in price. The Cold Steel Kudu, takes some cues from its South African competition, but our version is vastly superior. The best of the world's sword fighters have known a simple truth for ages... if you want to become a reasonably good sword fighter you should endeavor to learn sword fighting techniques, footwork and the basic stances. However, if you want to be a master at sword fighting you have to eventually start fighting with a "live blade". If your ultimate goal is to wield a razor sharp sword safely and effectively, you need to train with a sword that approximates the size, feel and heft of a live blade, yet minimizes the possibility of causing grievous, permanent, or life-threatening injury to yourself or your training partner. Hundreds of years ago, the Japanese discovered a simple truth; that to become a good swordsman you'll have to practice, a great deal. To become a great swordsman you’ll have to practice with a "live blade". And during the period between "good" and "great", you should spend your time building your skills and confidence enough to wield a razor sharp Katana safely and effectively. To accomplish this, the Japanese relied on a simple wooden sword called a "bokken" for much of their training. It was made from the super tough wood of the Japanese White Oak, a wood they called Kashi. The Zulus are perhaps the fiercest, most combative tribe in all South Africa. In the early 1800´s the Zulu King, Shaka, subjugated the vast area of land between the Phongolo and Mzimkhulu rivers and laid the foundations for the Zulu Nation. Then in 1879 the Zulus handed the British one of the most humiliating defeats in history at the battle of Isandlwana, when they annihilated an entire column of 1200 Englishmen (who were supported by artillery and cavalry), and did it with little more than cowhide shields and their Assegais, or short stabbing spears. Even to this day, a Zulu tribesman is nobody to be trifled with. The thing that distinguishes the Zulu people most is their fondness for using a Knob Kerrie, or walking stick. Our President, Lynn C. There isn’t a person working in the knife industry today that knows more about the Tanto than Cold Steel does. It was, after all, Cold Steel who invented and popularized this knife style in the early 1980’s. The Kobun is a lightweight Tanto styled boot knife. It takes its namesake from the Japanese martial, or underworld where the word "Kobun" means "soldier". It's a fitting name for a knife like the Kobun, which was effectively designed to be "a good soldier". 1815 French Officers Sabre

1815 French Officer's Saber The army of Napoleon was celebrated for its organization; despite the countless variations in uniforms and equipment. While the rank and file soldier was issued the standard accoutrements of the day, the officer's ranks were composed of a somewhat vainglorious lot who sought ways to distinguish themselves in both dress and in the styling of their weaponry. Huge numbers of differently styled edged weapons were issued and some were even custom made to order. Among the best examples of these special sabers was one forged for Lancer Officers. It was beautifully balanced and offered a moderately curved blade, a sharp useful point, and an excellent three bar hilt. As a cavalry weapon, it was more than suitable for use in a charge and performed equally well when fighting at close range in the mêlée. It was, however, the striking appearance of this saber that really inspired Cold Steel. From the highly polished steel and elegant etching on the blade, to the intricately decorated solid brass furniture and hilt, it's truly a vision to behold. Tanto - Imperial Series

Our factory has used only traditional materials for our Japanese sword´s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar), is hand made out of polished brass and each hilt is covered in Same (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful brass Menuki (a small, ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle) enhances the sword´s aesthetic appearance and makes for a sword that is as traditional looking as we can possibly make it. All feature fully sharpened 1055 carbon steel blades, each heat treated to a spring temper. The blade surface is then given a careful polish by hand, with a distinctive mirror polish applied to the fuller (blood groove). Unlike highly decorated “Bulawa” or ceremonial weapons, these simple utilitarian Maces were often plain and unadorned, and tucked into a sash or belt at the waist, ready to be quickly snatched and brought into play as a last-ditch tool for personal-defense. US 1860 Heavy Cavalry Saber

At the outbreak of the American Civil War, there were two types of sabers issued to the Federal Cavalry: "light" and "heavy". The light version was popular, but the heavy model, dubbed the "Old Wrist Breaker" was the one worth owning, as it was a superior weapon. Its 36" blade offered big reach advantages over most sabers, and its substantial weight gave it the leverage to easily crush bones and sever limbs or even a head with a single blow. The brass guard had three bars to protect the hand and the grip was wire bound leather and capped with a sturdy pommel. In its double ringed, steel scabbard, it could be easily attached to a saddle or to a belt. After examining and handling a number of original 1860 Heavy Cavalry Sabers, we decided to make our own reproduction with a few improvements. The advantage of the sword point over the edge became increasingly evident by the end of the 16th century. The Rapier, with its long, elegantly thin profile, which emphasized its point, became the popular choice in civilian self-defense. It was however, a somewhat unwieldy weapon especially when it was used in narrow, crowded streets and alleyways. Eventually a more sophisticated, shorter and lighter version emerged that by the end of the 17th century had evolved into an entirely new weapon, the Small Sword.Civilians carried it for as long as swords remained an integral part of fashionable dress. Its primary advantage was its stiff, lightweight blade which was forged in a triangular cross section. It was a highly lethal weapon, ideal for thrusting, and hung conveniently from a sash, baldric, or belt. The concept of the guardian lion emerged in China over 1800 years ago during the Han Dynasty. The lion, fierce, courageous, loyal and swift, was the perfect symbol to guard home and hearth. Both decorative and symbolic, it was common to see elegant sculptures of these lions guarding the homes of the wealthy and aristocratic or even the gates of the Imperial Palace and the tombs of the Chinese emperors. Our Jade Lion series draws upon the same protective reputation, combining ceremonial, "dress" styling with "battle ready" performance. This makes them appropriate for collectors specifically as well as martial artists in general.
