Bamboo Katana
In 1876, the Samurai were banned from carrying their swords. This attempt to end a thousand year tradition was not received well by the proud warrior class and the "stick katana" was born. Innocuous walking canes now concealed the revered blades, but the katana lived on. The Bamboo Stick Katana combines an artfully curved bamboo scabbard and handle with a blade (nagasa) that is constructed of hand-forged 1065 high-carbon steel and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. Early Medieval Single Hand Tinker Pearce Sharp
The Early Medieval Sword is typical of the 13th-14th century single hand swords but the Type XII blade was known to be in use from as early as the late Viking era. This version features a sharp Marquenched spring steel blade. As with all Medieval Tinker models, this sword is dismountable. CAS has commissioned Michael `Tinker` Pearce to design a line of swords that will satisfy both the sparring and cutting needs of Western Martial Arts practitioners. Matching sharp and blunt versions of each sword in the series offer the same outstanding handling characteristics in both disciplines. The swords meet Tinker`s exacting quality requirements and are built in much the same way as his custom pieces. Each blade is forged from 5160 spring steel, Marquenched to the desired hardness of 50-53 HRC while the tang is drawn back to the low 30s HRC. For the Medieval models the very end of the tang is threaded to fit an allen nut recessed into the pommel which allows for dismantling of the hilt assembly for inspection, to exchange blades if needed, and for anyone wanting to easily customize their grip. Also the sharp and blunt blades are interchangeable on all Medieval models. The grips are cord wrapped and leather covered wood and tapered for a comfortable grip. Each sword is supplied with a leather covered wood scabbard with metal throat and chape.

Sparring Jian Sword
Traditionally Chinese Martial Artists have used wooden "wasters" during sparring practice to inform their training and perfect their technique. While these wasters are generally safe, they have serious limitations for learning how swords actually behave during sparring. Hanwei's Sparring Jian have been designed by Scott Rodell to handle as closely as possible to sharp jian while providing rounded edges and safe flex during a thrust. Using the same blade steel, advanced heat treatment regimen and handle fittings as the Rodell designed Hanwei Cutting Jian students can practice forms, sparring and cutting all with the same design. Through these three disciplines the student can take a holistic approach to their jianfa training; what works in forms must work in sparring must work in cutting must work in forms, etc... Scott M. Rodell`s martial arts career includes over 30 years of training in Yang Style Taijiquan. He has trained under several noted Chinese masters, in both the U.S. and China. Early Medieval Single Hand Tinker Pearce Blunt Trainer
The Early Medieval Sword is typical of the 13th-14th century single hand swords but the Type XII blade was known to be in use from as early as the late Viking era. This blunt trainer features a Marquenched spring steel blade and is an exceptional match for the I.33 sword and buckler study.

Survival Kukri
For over 20 years Hanwei has been known as the leader in producing high quality, traditionally crafted and functional swords and related weaponry. During this time we have often wondered, what would a high-performance Kukri designed by Hanwei be like? The wait is over. And the answer is exceptional. The Kukri (or khukuri, khukri, etc.) and it's use as both a weapon of war and survival tool is legendary. Typically forged of high carbon steel and heat treated with the simplest of methods (literally poured water over a hot blade) the basic design and construction of the Nepalese Khukuri has been unchanged for centuries. Freed from strict tradition Hanwei has tasked themselves with designing a new modern classic Kukri. They've kept the shape, the balance and the high carbon steel but the rest is substantially upgraded. The heat-treat is now precisely controlled pulling every ounce of performance out of the forged 5160 spring steel, a steel so well regarded in the knife community it is often used for ABS performance test knives. The result holds an edge exceptionally well with a spine soft enough to absorb the stress of repeated impacts. The grip is the biggest change from tradition, and the most welcome. The pommel and guard are stainless steel while the grip is injection molded into a grippy but comfortable pattern. After precise fitting of the guard, grip and pommel the substantial thru-tang is peened and welded in place, resulting in a knife that feels as if it was formed of a solid piece of steel. The sheath is a multi-layer design, with an ABS insert and sturdy nylon shell. Multiple attachment points and carry positions are possible. Key Features: • High Performance Forged 5160 High Carbon Steel Blade • Same Balance and Basic Design as Traditional Kukri • Multi-layer Designed Sheath Included Details: Overall: 17 3/8" Blade Length: 12 1/4" Weight: 1 lbs 7oz Point of Balance: 2 1/4" Blade Steel: 5160

Tokugawa Katana
One of the “great unifiers” and legends of feudal Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, was a master tactician as well as political strategist. Much can be said of Ieysau for his bold yet prudent quick reactions to seize opportunities, but his long game tactics proved most successful. After years of clever maneuvering and military battles, Ieyasu traded his five home provinces for eight in the Kanto province after conquering them with one of his top rivals Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This ingenious move isolated him from Hideyoshi’s rule and allowed for autonomy in becoming the second most powerful daimyo in Japan. This move spawned the Japanese proverb “Ieyasu won the Empire by retreating.”After Hideyoshi’s death, Ieyasu became one of the regents in the Council of Five Elders that would rule on behalf of his young son, Hideyori. A year later, one of the oldest and most respected regents dies creating an opportunity for control. Ieyasu takes Osaka Caste, the residence of Hideyori, and infuriates the other regents. At the Battle of Sekigahara he found himself almost outnumbered two to one. But like his deceased friend and ally, Oda Nobunaga, Ieyasu made use of firearms and had some arquebuses smuggled in for the battle along with some added behind the scenes negotiating with some of the daimyo in the Western Army. Ending in complete and total victory, Ieyasu became shogun in March of 1603 which created the Tokugawa shogunate which lasted til 1868 which is referred to as the Edo period. Uesugi Katana
Uesugi Kenshin was one of feudal Japans most unique and honorable daimyo of Senkugo period. Being born Nageo Kagetora, a third or fourth son, his early years were those of quiet and study until his sickly older brother’s incompetence to rule caused family friends to encourage him to challenge his sibling’s station. After wrestling control from his brother and several well-planned alliances, adoption as heir of the Uesugi klan, some changes in titles in land and several military victories, he rose in power and became known by many names, but specifically the “Dragon of Echigo.” He became renowned for reforms in commerce and agriculture in securing his lands and raising the standard of life for his people. As the legendary Takeda Shingen expanded his territory and power, he soon found his borders under siege and thus began their great rivalry. Mostly just indecisive skirmishes in the beginning, their fourth encounter which would be their largest, the Battle of Kawanakajima, Kenshin employed a new strategy of rotating soldiers on the front line with fresh troops nearly winning the battle. So pitched was this battle Kenshin rode up to Shingen and slashed at him by which Takeda deflected with his famed war fan. Yet depending on whose statistics you believe; many scholars consider this encounter a draw.Such respect Uesugi had for Shingen, when Takeda broke with the Hojo clan who soon after boycotted the Kai Province of salt, Kenshin sent his rival salt from his own province with the message, “I do not fight with salt, but with the sword.” Even at Takeda Shingen’s death, Kenshin said “I have lost my good rival. We won't have a hero like that again!” But even after his rival’s death, Kenshin found a new one in the rising power of Oda Nobunaga. Continuing our series, this beautiful katana features the embossed likeness of Uesugi Kenshin replicated from Japanese artwork. The 27 1/4" forged T10 steel blade cuts as well as it looks. The fuchi and kashira are blackened with gold detailing. The gold dragon menuki are over laid with a black cotton handle wrap over real ray skin. The matte black textured painted saya completes the piece with a subdued and humble finish. Scramasax with stag horn handle and leather sheath
The Scramasax carried by the Saxons and the Vikings between the 4th and 10th centuries, came in a wide range of sizes and was used both as a tool and a weapon. Carried horizontally, at the back of the belt, the scramasax provided the spearman with both a close-quarters weapon and a tool and utensil in camp. Our Scramasax, with its foot-long blade, would provide both slashing and thrusting power in battle while handling heavy-duty chores around the home and camp. It is patterned on a surviving blade just 3 ½” long, and while these would have been used primarily as eating utensils they could, if needed, be called upon to inflict a disabling wound. Tinker 9th Century Viking sharp
While not a direct copy of any particular sword, the Viking sword design was inspired by historical examples from the early 9th Century, most notably finds from the area around Trondheim, Norway, where the circular indentation hilt decoration was popular. The scabbards are provided with suspension points and a period chape, giving the sheathed sword a very attractive appearance. The construction of the Viking "pair" differs from other swords in the Tinker series in as much as they are tang-riveted (peened) in period fashion at the pommel, primarily to satisfy Viking re-enactment requirements. As with the other swords in the series, replacement blades are available. Again, the handling characteristics of the two swords are virtually identical. CAS has commissioned Michael `Tinker` Pearce to design a line of swords that will satisfy both the sparring and cutting needs of Western Martial Arts practitioners. The swords meet Tinker`s exacting quality requirements and are built in much the same way as his custom pieces. Made by Hanwei. Basket Hilt Broadsword
Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the the seventeenth and eighteenth century highlander has become legendary. Our Basket-Hilt Broadsword carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-eighteenth century. It is likely that the blade of the original sword was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. Although the blade of the original bears the "Andrea Ferara" name, it is unlikely that it was made by this renowned Spanish swordsmith, as many good quality blades of the period were so marked (in various spellings!), irrespective of the actual maker. The forged double-edged blade of our sword is in fully tempered high-carbon steel with a solid steel basket. The grip is wire-wrapped rayskin and the basket liner is of felt-covered leather. Renaissance Wax 65ml
Renaissance wax polish was originally formulated in the British Museum research laboratories in the early 1950's, in response to a discussion amongst museum technicians at an international conference on fine-art conservation. In accelerated ageing tests, the British Museum scientist found that all current commercial waxes based on the usual natural waxes (beeswax and carnauba wax) contained acids which, in time, could spoil original finishes on national historic collections of furniture. He rejected them all and investigated the new so-called 'fossil' or microcrystalline waxes being refined out of crude oil. With their distinct characteristics depending on their geographical origins, the new 'man-made' waxes could be accurately blended to meet the needs of many industries, from cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to heavy engineering. Thus, the waxes combined Nature's best qualities with the advantages of modern technology. The blend which emerged from that research was 'designed' for long term protection of all classes of museum exhibits. At last museum technicians and others caring for important collections could use wax polish that neither caused future conservation problems nor detracted from the intrinsic values of their treasures. For over forty years, Renaissance Wax has been the No. 1 choice of museums for the preservation of precious items including swords and other edged weapons. Professional conservators throughout the world depend on Renaissance Wax to protect their collections. Properly applied, a little goes a long way. Made by Hanwei. Golden Oriole Katana
It has been said that in simplicity lies great beauty, an axiom stunningly validated by the Golden Oriole Katana and Wakizashi. The deeply lacquered blue of the saya is repeated in the Japanese cotton tsuka-ito, and the Oriole appears again on the kashira. Dragon Armor - Full Suit
Hanwei's Dragon Armour, named for the helmet crest (mon), is made for the connoisseur of Japanese armours. It faithfully replicates a Byotoji Do Gusoku from the Edo period which, like many fine armours, incorporates an earlier helmet bowl from the Momoyama period. European influence on Samurai armour is discernible in the slight median ridge to the front section of the byotoji okegawa do (breastplate) which, by this period, was designed to deflect musket balls. The plates of the do, with waved edges, are fastened with elaborate shakudo rivets in the form of flowers with gilt centers. This feature illustrates the Japanese preference for a more flexible style of armour than the typical European one-piece breastplate construction. The carrying chest/display seat (hitsu) is black lacquered with the Dragon mon emblazoned in silver on the front panel. Overall, the antiqued patina of the gusoku gives a period appearance and provides a rich addition to any Japanese décor. Our full-sized suits of Samurai armour provide displays of outstanding quality for the den or the dojo. Crafted by the armourers of Hanwei, the armour is authentically detailed and completely realistic. These very affordable pieces are made with traditional styling and materials and are wearable (within a reasonable size range). They are supplied in the customary black lacquered box which, along with an included wooden frame, provides the support for the display.

Shamshir
The shamshir came to notoriety in the Persian empire around the 12th century, and more notably in the 13th century with the Mongol invasion. A versatile weapon on foot or in the mount, the long, deeply curved blade was capable of devasting deep cuts and some thrusts which makes for an excellent calvary sword. Its five-century evolution came to a pinnacle during the Ottoman Empire to what we perceive as a shamshir today.Hanwei’s Shamshir pays tribute to the craftsmanship and excellence of the blades of the past with keeping true to form on the classic stylings. The 33” steel blades have over 2” of curvature with a balance point of 8 ½” inches. The full tang handle features a gorgeous rosewood handle. The hilt and black leather scabbard fittings are stainless steel. The Hanwei Shamshir can be a formidable weapon or an excellent collector’s piece. Only the soul who wields it can decide. Viking Throwing Spear
The decorated spearheads demonstrate the Viking´s creative mix of art and war, whereby weapons often carried intricate patterns, created using the "Niello" process. This involved using an alloy of several metals (notably silver) mixed with sulfur which was rubbed into an incised pattern and then fired. Where the alloy is rubbed into the engraving, it remains black while the rest of the surface is polished to a bright finish. Our decorating process uses a little less alchemy, but still provides a lustrous, permanent Niello-like effect. Each spearhead has a shaft diameter of 2.5 cm. Spearheads only are supplied. The Nordic warrior frequently carried several light Throwing Spears into combat. This style displays the narrow, sharply pointed head designed to pierce mail. Several spears might be carried in the shield hand in a charge. These were thrown as the distance closed, leaving the warrior free to use his sword or axe in hand-to-hand fighting. Total head length is 41 cm. This spear head is silver and not antiqued as pictured. Raptor Unokubi Zukuri
The Raptor series, our new line of cutting katanas, has been designed for the cutting practitioner who does not necessarily have access to mats but who wishes to practice and perfect his cutting technique. The blades are forged in 5160 high-carbon steel and specially heat treated to produce very high resilience and greater tolerance of misdirected cuts than a conventional differentially tempered blade. The edge geometry is configured to facilitate the cutting of both soft and semi-hard materials without chipping, allowing the cutter a wide choice of targets. The Raptor Unokubi-Zukuri (Cormorant's Neck) blade design is patterned after the shape of the Naginata, the powerful long-handled weapon popular between the 12th and 14th centuries. Celestial Katana
The celestial bodies pull at the water’s edge and create the tide, the ebb and flow of waves that bring time and balance to our world. As the samurai warrior must give and take with the ever-flowing tides of life, the Celestial Katana reflects all the harmonious aspects of the heavens and the sea.A beautiful 27 5/8” L6 blade featuring a straight hamon line symbolizing placidity. The kashira and tsuba juxtaposes the hamon with a depiction of turbulent sea with waves crashing against the rocks. The tsuka features black cotton sageo over white same with multi-finish planetary menuki. The saya sparkles with a beautiful silver flake with a gloss polish with a buffalo horn kojiri, kurikata and koiguchi adorned with a navy and white sageo.Bainite is a structure of high-carbon steel that combines great strength with excellent flexibility and shock absorption characteristics. It has been known as an exemplary Katana blade component for a number of years but its use has been restricted to a few top-class master smiths, due to the difficulties involved in performing the exacting heat treatment procedures necessary for the production of a Bainite blade body in combination with the very hard Martensite Yakiba (edge section) required for Katana blades. Hanwei has now mastered this difficult process, using billets of L-6 tool steel (a very tough high-carbon low-alloy steel) as a starting point. Renaissance Wax 200ml
Scottish Basket-Hilt Broadsword (Antiqued)
Although Basket-Hilt swords appeared throughout Britain from the mid-sixteenth century on, their association with the seventeenth and eighteenth century Scottish highlander has become legendary. Our Basket-Hilt Broadsword, replicated from an original in the collection of the Royal Armouries in England, carries a typical Glasgow-style hilt from the mid-18th century. It is likely that the blade of the original sword, marked "Andrea Ferara", was made in Germany a century earlier and re-hilted as basket designs were refined. The sword is available in both polished and antiqued finishes. Both hilts are crafted from stainless steel, to minimize maintenance, that of the normal version being polished while the "antiqued" version has a museum-quality patina. The high-carbon blade of the antiqued version is also lightly "antiqued" to promote authenticity. The grips of the broadswords are covered with wire-wrapped genuine rayskin and the basket liners are crafted in fabric-covered leather. The scabbards are leather-covered, black in the case of the normal version and brown for the antiqued sword. This sword comes with a sharp blade. Qi Jian
From the master swordsmiths of the Hanwei forge comes the Qi Jian, a re-creation of an ancient design that utilized one-piece forging. The entire sword, from pommel to tip, has been forged from a single billet of steel. This forging technique provides unparalleled strength and balance while exhibiting a clear, bell-like tone when lightly struck. The sword´s name originates with the Qi nation, one of the many warring states that eventually formed modern China. Legend has it that Feng-Xuan, one of the Qi people and a central character in a well known folk tale, possessed such a one piece sword and would use its ringing quality to accompany his singing. The sword´s grip is rayskin wrapped, a feature matched by the wrap on the throat of the scabbard, making for a stunningly beautiful presentation. Radaelli Sabre
One of the rapidly growing arts within historical fencing societies is that of sabre fencing in the late 19th century Italian style, originating with fencing masters who were employed to train mounted troops in the effective use of the military sabre. The Milanese fencing master Guiseppe Radaelli, is credited with starting the development of this style, while Salvatore Pecoraro introduced changes and refinements which resulted in the technique finally adopted for sabre at the Military Masters School in Rome. The hilt designs developed by Radaelli and Pecoraro have been reproduced in our fencing sabers, with stainless steel guards and wire-wrapped sharkskin-pattern grips. Toyotomi Hideyoshi Katana
Toyotomi Hideyoshi, born Hiyoshimaru in 1536, rose from peasant status to chief minister of the emperor in 1585 in attempt to complete the goal of unification of Japan by his fallen leader Oda Nobunaga. In 1568 when Nobunaga began his siege of central Japan Hideyoshi fought in many of those important battles. His judicious behavior, positive countenance and intelligence helped him rise through the ranks. Though his lowly origins bely the latter of those traits, Hideyoshi was the architect of many reforms of feudalism in Japan as well as becoming a master of the tea ceremony and educated himself in secret. In 1577 Nobunaga charged Hideyoshi with the subjugation of western Japan. After the betrayal of Nobunaga's retainer, Akechi Mitsuhide, and Nobunaga's suicide, Hideyoshi sought immediate revenge on his leader’s traitor and defeated him at the Battle of Yamazaki.Hideyoshi followed by securing the line of succession by Nobunaga's grandson. After subduing one the powerful vassals supporting Nobunaga's third son, Hideyoshi began fortifying the country by securing all the strongholds and building Osaka castle. Soon after he started the unification process of Japan to complete his mentor's work. After battling Tokugawa Ieyasu which led to a draw, they ended their conflict with an alliance. In 1585 Hideyoshi was appointed kampuku (chancellor to the emperor) and was given the family name of Toyotomi. After subduing the last of the resistance with his new ally, Ieyasu, they went about securing power and stability for Japan by disarming the population, reducing the number of castles and strongholds within the country and freezing the social classes. Hideyoshi abolished road checkpoints to encourage travel and trade. He also conducted large land surveys to develop mineral resources for the formation of coinage to also assist with economic growth. In 1590, Hideyoshi was the head of daimyo alliance the formed the government of national unification. Soon after Hideyoshi passed on his position of kampuku to his nephew, Toyotomi Hidetsugu. In 1592 Hideyoshi began an invasion of Korea which ended in failure but tried again in 1597 and failed. Hideyoshi died in 1601 at the age of 62 where he spent his latter years burdened by his defeat in Korea. Two years after Toyotomi Hideyoshi's death, Ieyasu took control of the government and founded the Tokugawa shogunate. Ieyasu continued Hideyoshi's policies of unification which led into a time of peace in the Tokugawa era.Hanwei has created a genuine piece of sword art with the Toyotomi Hideyoshi Katana. The tsuba depicts the image of Hideyoshi embossed with gold detailing and an etching of Osaka castle on the opposite side. The fuchi illustrates the tea ceremony with gold detailing and as well as kashira with its depiction of Osaka castle. The handle is wrapped in black cotton over white same. The 27” forged blade features a hi on both sides to make this a light and quick katana. The deep black lacquered saya completes the piece. The Toyotomi Hideyoshi Katana represents the best of Hanwei craftsmanship and sword art which will satisfy the practitioner and the collector alike. Musashi XL Light Katana
Miyamoto Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster in Japanese history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing his famous treatise on swordplay, the "Book of Five Rings". Mounted in black, the Musashi Katana is faithful to the original down to the famous double-ring iron tsubas. The tsuka-ito is in leather over ray skin. The blade is hand-forged in high-carbon steel, with new geometry to enhance cutting ability. This hand and a half sword features a Type XVIIIa blade with a strong central ridge and diamond profile. The tapered oval grip feels fantastic in hand while the second hand easily slides over the wheel pommel when extra leverage is required. This blunt trainer features a Marquenched spring steel blade with a 3/4 length fuller to allow for the required thicker edges for safe sparring practice. Bastard Sword antiqued
The strong and fearless Swiss and Germans originally carried these early weapons, although bastard swords soon became popular in other regions such as the British Isles and Europe. The term bastard undoubtedly comes from the fact that the sword, because of its design, has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a single-handed or two-handed weapon. The two-handed sword was a weapon developed for the use of the foot soldier and had became quite common by the early 1500´s. The combat styles developed for the two-handed sword were the particular specialty of the Northern European Cultures, with the Germanic nations being quite active in its development and use. Viking Short-Bladed Spear
Each spearhead has a shaft diameter of 1". Spearheads only are supplied. The Viking Short Bladed Spear is typical of those of Celtic origin, imported into Scandinavia. The short blade, inherently stiffer and more resistant to bending or breaking, was capable of piercing any body armour of the period. Practical 11th Century Sword
Another new addition to our line of un-edged "practical" European weapons for use in re-enactment and stage combat. The Practical 11th Century Sword features a "tea-cosy" pommel and a sculptured cross that curves gently towards the blade. The broad blade has full-length fullers and is very lively for an un-edged blade. It weighs around 950 grams. Our Practical broadswords are all based on authentically styled swords in our collection but they are tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat. These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today´s re-enactment societies. The blades are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. While the blades are substantial, they are fullered to provide balance and good handling characteristics. They feature 2 mm wide edges and rounded tips for safety. The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the blade shoulders and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel, which both eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly and provides a traditional means of tightening a loose hilt. The hardwood grips are leather-covered. The scabbards are fabricated in glass-filled resin, to provide great impact resistance, to eliminate swelling and to minimize blade corrosion problems. The scabbards now feature belt rings that adjust to allow vertical or horizontal carry. The wood-grain finish is attractive, but most re-enactors will decorate the scabbard to match their persona. MEASUREMENTS: PRODUCT LENGTH: 92 cm BLADE LENGTH: 76.5 cm PRODUCT WEIGHT: 950 grams Category 2: These swords are likewise suitable for beginners and advanced fighters. All category 2 swords feature high-quality carbon steel blades which hardly show any scratches when used against other blades. The pommels are riveted at the end of the tang.
