Glamdring – The Sword of Gandalf the Grey

In the Third Age of Middle-earth, the old and powerful Wizard Gandalf and his Company of Dwarves came upon a troll lair in Rhûdaur. There they found two ancient Elven swords and a knife. The sabre has an overall length of 100 cm. The silver sheath is made of metal and fitted with a metal ring to attach the sheath to the belt. The guard of the handle bar is decorated with oak leaves. The grip is made of black plastic, the surface is finely beaded and wrapped with three silver-plated wires throughout. The lion's head, the temple and guard are made of brass. Circa 750 The seax, or sax, was universal in Northern Europe. Carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Vikings and German tribes, its use probably dates before the fall of Rome and continues on into the early Middle Ages. From small knives with 3-4 inch blades to actual swords with blades of 27-28 inches, always single-edged, the profile of the seax varied a great deal. The original version of this large knife served from camp work to cutting work, on shipboard, and for fighting if a sword or axe was not available. Born in Edoras, EowynTM suffered the early death of her parents, and was forced to look after her ailing uncle, King Theoden,TM whose health was rapidly diminishing under the increasing control of SarumanTM and Grima Wormtongue. The beautiful and strong Eowyn was trained as a Shield-maiden, and was considered to have surpassed many Rohirrim men in terms of craft and skill. She carried a full-sized sword, which measured nearly three feet in length, from tip to hilt. Against her uncles wishes, a disguised Eowyn rode with the Rohirrim to the Pelennor Fields along with the hobbit, Merry, in defense of their fallen king. Many reproductions however, play into the stereotype of Viking battle ready swords as little more than long cleavers - heavy, brutish weapons wielded by a brutal people. These reproductions fail to capture the spirit or “function” of the Viking medieval sword as an important step in the evolution of the European medieval sword, from earlier Romanesque styles to the arming battle ready swords of medieval times. The most authoritive typology of the Viking battle ready sword was written by Dr. Jan Peterson in 1919. Focusing on variations in pommel and guards to formulate a 26 category scheme, Jan Perterson created a typological reference to determine the date of each sub type. The five lobed Viking battle sword is the quintessential Norse weapon during the Viking age. The blade has the distinctive wide fuller and spatulate tip, typical of designs from the Viking era. Designers Dietmar Pohl and Stoil Manchev were given the great privilege of using unusual and contemporary designs. Impressively staged by the main actor, they already count among true classics. Over the past four years, a third MOVIE KNIFE concept design has been slumbering in Dietmar Pohl's very personal design archive. Due to the enormously short lead time to filming in the fall of 2018, it had no longer been possible to realize it and present it to the film star and the production team. British 1796 Heavy Cavalry Saber

Used by British Lifeguards, Royal Horse Guards, Dragoon Guards and Dragoons through the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. It was directly copied from the Austrian Pallasch 1769 heavy cavalry sword. British cavalry officer John Le Marchant attentively made drawings of the weapons carried by the Austrian cavalry during the Low Countries Campaign in 1793-95, and likely was involved in the recommendation of this pattern to his superiors. Notable for its use at Salamanca and Waterloo. Technically the 1796 heavy cavalry sword is a backsword, defined as a sword with a straight blade with one cutting edge and a spine (the "back") thickened for most of its length to give added strength. In fact, this is not a delicately maneuverable sword by any stretch of the imagination, and gained favor as a bludgeoning weapon. Troops also used the guard as a knuckle duster. The blade is forged with a single broad fuller on each side. The grip is of ribbed leather. The basket guard has ears which are riveted through the tang of the blade to give the hilt and blade a very secure connection. Designed by Major-General John Gaspard Le Marchant, the 1796 pattern light cavalry saber was based on Central and Eastern European hussar swords. As a young captain, he observed the clumsy design of the heavy, overly long 1788 Pattern swords. Le Marchant opined that the "blades of the Turks, Mamelukes, Moors, and Hungarians (were) preferable to any other." He gave the blade of this saber a pronounced curve, which made it more adept at cavalry attack methods, and designed it with a widened tip that affected the balance, but made slashes far more brutal.
