Taoforge Rin´ne Katana, handgeschmiedet und gefaltet

This is a “Rin´ne” katana from our Shogun class which was folded of 1095 steel, forged and differentially hardened. This created a cutting edge with a 60 on the Rockwell hardness scale, and a blade back that rates a 40 HRC. The blade is sharply polished, features a typical folding structure and has no hi. The tsuka-ito is made of pure, black silk and is attached firmly to the real ray skin. The steel tsuba of the “Rin´ne” displays blossom motifs and is rounded off with an image of the imperial crest of Japan, also know as the wheel of life, which originates in Buddhism. The kashira and the fuchi show an artistically carved out blossom. The menuki on the other hand are in the form of full grown “long” or Chinese dragons, which is considered the deity of rain and fertility. The saya has been adorned with an inlay of fish skin starting at the koiguchi. Samurai Katana, 72.39 cm Blade Length

The Samurai Katana is the strongest and best performing Japanese style blade ever offered at this price. The use of Swedish powdered steel, used in the construction of these shinogi zukuri katana, results in outstanding quality and performance. Strength, edge holding, and beauty have all been significantly enhanced by the use of this steel along with the complex folding process. The thicker, robust blade with ample niku ("meat") evidences a gunome style hamon and a dramatic ayasugi-hada with mokume and masame.The tsuba is steel and engraved with a Samurai drawing his sword.The fuchi and kashira also feature Samurai drawing and cutting engraved in them. The forging process for this sword can be seen on our website. Each of these blades is individually hand forged and folded, heat treated, and mounted. Even with these design parameters each sword is unique. Performance testing has shown them to be strong cutting blades with a good resistance to deflection. Peace Katana, Blade Length 71.12 cm

Bugei is pleased to announce the introduction of an all new katana -- The "Peace" Sword.The Peace sword is a robust shinogi zukuri katana with an extended chu kissaki. The blade is moderate in thickness and somewhat wide compared to many designs. However, like the original Tadayoshi school sword the Peace sword is based on, the Peace sword has a shallow bo-hi (full sized groove) and a soe-bi (fine groove) running below the shinogi (ridge line). This allows the sword to remain robust and durable with a good cross-sectional thickness all while helping keep the overall weight of the sword down. The sword moves easily in the hands, is extremely sharp, and is still of a robust design for cutting practice. The hamon is deep with vivid nioi and on close inspection you can see the interaction of the suguha with the underlying finely folded steel. It makes for a more subtle but very elegant look. It also gives the sword a serene appearance. Deadly in appearance, but calm and serene. It appears simple, but the closer you look, the more you see. Which are of course attributes that would appeal to the samurai of old. Calm focus. Peace. Understated elegance.The mokko raised rim tsuba was designed to show the original field with a single bleached skull on the ground. The mokko shape was chosen as many practitioners like the fact that the sword doesn't tend to "roll around" when placing the sword down on the mat when preparing or finishing practice. Tsuba with these sorts of designs were appealing to the samurai. One had to accept the invevitability of death in order to transcend the fear of it.The higo style iron fuchi kashira and kojiri were designed with a background of the same field but with the classical higo design element. No skulls here -- just the ground field and grass on the fuchi with the sky represented in a subtle fashion in classical higo style fittings.Higo style brown silk ito was chosen for the wrap with the typical higo blackened samekawa. The menuki chosen were single gold horses.Finally the black gloss saya (scabbard) shows the summer grasses starting to grow. They are hand brushed in gold paint and gradually increase in frequency towards the iron kojiri but never overpower the simple black gloss saya. The custom made sageo (cord on the saya) is black and gold with gold grasses woven into the sageo, carrying the theme. The dimensions on the saya are more like antique saya than modern production saya in these ways.As each sword is hand forged there will be slight variation from one sword to the next. However, we measured the sword pictured above to give basic specification of the sword. The thickness of the sword (kasane) at the habaki is 7mm tapering to 5.5mm at the transition to the tip. The "height" of the sword (motohaba) at the habaki is 32mm tapering to 24mm at the yokote (transition to the tip). The extended chu kissaki is 38mm long. And the blade has a gentle roughly 3/4 inch tori sori. Again, please note that each sword will vary slightly as each sword is hand forged and polished. The sword shown in the Youtube video above is one of the 30" nagasa swords with 14" tsuka. The Peace Sword has been a huge success and sold out our initial orders very quickly. The blade is made of 12x (about 8,000 layers) folded carbon steel, differentiated hardened with clay coat 60 HRC at the blade and about 40 HRC at blade back. The blade is also build in Kobuse-Style * (hard jacket, soft core). The masterful work of the polisher brings Damascus structure and a temper line to reveal, underscored by a mirror polish on the back of the blade. All decorations (Tsuba, Menuki, Fuchi and Kashira) are handmade and set in a simple fall scene the beauty of the moment. Using the best materials and painstaking scrutinizing every detail, under the direction of founder, Frenchie Jin, the fires of the forge were ablaze with several new forged and folded katana for the new year.The new Kinryu Katana is the first in a series of limited edition forged and folded katana featuring an intricate dragon motif horimono on the blade. The 27 ¾” blade is folded using T10 and 9260 steels to produce a pronounced hada which is more visible in the hamon. The blade is well balanced and appropriate for various cutting demands. Peace Katana, Blade Length 76.2 cm

Bugei is pleased to announce the introduction of an all new katana -- The "Peace" Sword.The Peace sword is a robust shinogi zukuri katana with an extended chu kissaki. The blade is moderate in thickness and somewhat wide compared to many designs. However, like the original Tadayoshi school sword the Peace sword is based on, the Peace sword has a shallow bo-hi (full sized groove) and a soe-bi (fine groove) running below the shinogi (ridge line). This allows the sword to remain robust and durable with a good cross-sectional thickness all while helping keep the overall weight of the sword down. The sword moves easily in the hands, is extremely sharp, and is still of a robust design for cutting practice. The hamon is deep with vivid nioi and on close inspection you can see the interaction of the suguha with the underlying finely folded steel. It makes for a more subtle but very elegant look. It also gives the sword a serene appearance. Deadly in appearance, but calm and serene. It appears simple, but the closer you look, the more you see. Which are of course attributes that would appeal to the samurai of old. Calm focus. Peace. Understated elegance.The mokko raised rim tsuba was designed to show the original field with a single bleached skull on the ground. The mokko shape was chosen as many practitioners like the fact that the sword doesn't tend to "roll around" when placing the sword down on the mat when preparing or finishing practice. Tsuba with these sorts of designs were appealing to the samurai. One had to accept the invevitability of death in order to transcend the fear of it.The higo style iron fuchi kashira and kojiri were designed with a background of the same field but with the classical higo design element. No skulls here -- just the ground field and grass on the fuchi with the sky represented in a subtle fashion in classical higo style fittings.Higo style brown silk ito was chosen for the wrap with the typical higo blackened samekawa. The menuki chosen were single gold horses.Finally the black gloss saya (scabbard) shows the summer grasses starting to grow. They are hand brushed in gold paint and gradually increase in frequency towards the iron kojiri but never overpower the simple black gloss saya. The custom made sageo (cord on the saya) is black and gold with gold grasses woven into the sageo, carrying the theme. The dimensions on the saya are more like antique saya than modern production saya in these ways.As each sword is hand forged there will be slight variation from one sword to the next. However, we measured the sword pictured above to give basic specification of the sword. The thickness of the sword (kasane) at the habaki is 7mm tapering to 5.5mm at the transition to the tip. The "height" of the sword (motohaba) at the habaki is 32mm tapering to 24mm at the yokote (transition to the tip). The extended chu kissaki is 38mm long. And the blade has a gentle roughly 3/4 inch tori sori. Again, please note that each sword will vary slightly as each sword is hand forged and polished. Oni Katana

The Oni are mythical creatures from Japanese folklore similar to western demons or trolls. In modern culture they are beginning to move away from this menacing connotation into the role of guardian or protector, similar in character to gargoyles. Their power and ferocity, however, have not diminished. There is a Japanese saying which translates to "Oni with an iron club", or to be of an invincible nature, a fitting association with the 29" L6/Bainite blade on which our Oni Katana is built. The blade features the geometry of our Performance Series for outstanding cutting ability. The 14" tsuka is wrapped in black ray skin and silk ito while the Koshirae feature Oni in various classical styles. A unique combination of folklore and functionality. Bainite is a structure of high-carbon steel that combines great strength with excellent flexibility and shock absorption characteristics. It has been known as an exemplary Katana blade component for a number of years but its use has been restricted to a few top-class master smiths, due to the difficulties involved in performing the exacting heat treatment procedures necessary for the production of a Bainite blade body in combination with the very hard Martensite Yakiba (edge section) required for Katana blades. Hanwei has now mastered this difficult process, using billets of L-6 tool steel (a very tough high-carbon low-alloy steel) as a starting point. Blades are forged and shaped in the normal way, then carefully heat treated to achieve the required Bainite and Martensite structures before final polishing. The Japanese Katanas, hand-made by Thaitsuki Nihonto, are of the highest quality, traditionally made and perfected for over 400 years. Ronin Katana

The Story of the 47 Ronin is one of the most celebrated and influential tales of the Samurai from the Edo period. Lord Asano was a powerful Daimyo ordered by the Shogun to entertain guests of the Imperial Family. The highest ranking master of protocol, Kira, was given the task of teaching Asano, among others, proper matters of etiquette in this task. Lord Asano and Kira quickly grew to dislike each other and the teacher insulted his student at every opportunity. No longer able to contain himself, Asano drew his sword upon Kira, wounding him in the attack. This act led to Asano´s ordered suicide (seppuku) and the confiscation of his property. On December 14, 1702, nearly one year after Asano´s death, 47 of Asano´s men (now Ronin), descended upon the mansion of Kira to exact their revenge. After a fierce battle, the Ronin demanded that Kira commit seppuku for his transgressions against their former master. When he refused he was beheaded. For their actions the Ronin were themselves sentenced to death by seppuku. They are buried together at the Sengakuji, offering a true testament to the loyalty inherent in the Samurai. Bushido Tonbo Katana

Handcrafted in a small town nestled in the Longquan mountains of China’s Zhejiang province, where the tradition of skilled swordmaking began over 2,000 years ago. Every part of this sword is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods. The blade is pattern welded, with most of the blade Rockwelling in the 40-45 HRC range and about 35 HRC at the guard. The simulated hamon is expertly applied by an artisan. Each blade is honed and must be able to cleanly cut through a sheet of paper before it leaves the factory. The tsuba and pommel are emblazoned with Dragonflies. To the Samurai, the Dragonfly was a symbol of fearlessness, swiftness and courage; they were believed to bring soldiers strength and protection. Japan is also known as the Island of the Dragonfly or Akitsushima (akitsu is the Japanese word for dragonfly and shima means island). Peace Katana, Blade Length 72.4 cm

Bugei is pleased to announce the introduction of an all new katana -- The "Peace" Sword.The Peace sword is a robust shinogi zukuri katana with an extended chu kissaki. The blade is moderate in thickness and somewhat wide compared to many designs. However, like the original Tadayoshi school sword the Peace sword is based on, the Peace sword has a shallow bo-hi (full sized groove) and a soe-bi (fine groove) running below the shinogi (ridge line). This allows the sword to remain robust and durable with a good cross-sectional thickness all while helping keep the overall weight of the sword down. The sword moves easily in the hands, is extremely sharp, and is still of a robust design for cutting practice. The hamon is deep with vivid nioi and on close inspection you can see the interaction of the suguha with the underlying finely folded steel. It makes for a more subtle but very elegant look. It also gives the sword a serene appearance. Deadly in appearance, but calm and serene. It appears simple, but the closer you look, the more you see. Which are of course attributes that would appeal to the samurai of old. Calm focus. Peace. Understated elegance.The mokko raised rim tsuba was designed to show the original field with a single bleached skull on the ground. The mokko shape was chosen as many practitioners like the fact that the sword doesn't tend to "roll around" when placing the sword down on the mat when preparing or finishing practice. Tsuba with these sorts of designs were appealing to the samurai. One had to accept the invevitability of death in order to transcend the fear of it.The higo style iron fuchi kashira and kojiri were designed with a background of the same field but with the classical higo design element. No skulls here -- just the ground field and grass on the fuchi with the sky represented in a subtle fashion in classical higo style fittings.Higo style brown silk ito was chosen for the wrap with the typical higo blackened samekawa. The menuki chosen were single gold horses.Finally the black gloss saya (scabbard) shows the summer grasses starting to grow. They are hand brushed in gold paint and gradually increase in frequency towards the iron kojiri but never overpower the simple black gloss saya. The custom made sageo (cord on the saya) is black and gold with gold grasses woven into the sageo, carrying the theme. The dimensions on the saya are more like antique saya than modern production saya in these ways.As each sword is hand forged there will be slight variation from one sword to the next. However, we measured the sword pictured above to give basic specification of the sword. The thickness of the sword (kasane) at the habaki is 7mm tapering to 5.5mm at the transition to the tip. The "height" of the sword (motohaba) at the habaki is 32mm tapering to 24mm at the yokote (transition to the tip). The extended chu kissaki is 38mm long. And the blade has a gentle roughly 3/4 inch tori sori. Again, please note that each sword will vary slightly as each sword is hand forged and polished. The sword shown in the Youtube video above is one of the 30" nagasa swords with 14" tsuka. The Peace Sword has been a huge success and sold out our initial orders very quickly. The Battles of Kawanakajima were fought in the Sengoku period of Japan between bitter rivals Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. Though neither warrior emerged victorious over the other, the battles did yield many stories of bravery, chivalry and cunning that have passed into Japanese legend and folklore. The artisans of Dragon King have immortalized this great series of battles in this forged and folded steel katana.This beast of a blade is 28” long with a deep hi to lessen the weight. Handcrafted in a small town nestled in the Longquan mountains of China’s Zhejiang province, where the tradition of skilled swordmaking began over 2,000 years ago. Every part of this sword is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using centuries-old methods. Each piece in the Bushido group has a hand-forged and folded ASSAB-K120C powder steel blade, differentially tempered to produce an HRC60 edge, HRC40 back and a distinctive hamon. Saya are deeply lacquered in old gold with inlaid brass sakura flowers. Quality ray skin is used on the tsuka of the Katana and Wakizashi, while the tsuka of the Tanto is of gold-plated brass with a battle-scene decoration in relief. The tsuba of the Katana and Wakizashi is of blackened and bronzed iron, with detailing in gold and silver and a battle scene decoration. The tsuka-ito on the Katana and Wakizashi and the sageo on all three pieces are woven from Japanese cotton.
