Wado-Ichi-Monji by Roronoa Zoro katana

Geisha’s Blade hand forged and fully sharpened version of the Wado Ichimonji Katana, which is one of the swords of Roronoa Zoro, a character from the popular anime/manga: One Piece. This is a sword of great personal importance to Roronoa Zoro, and it was once Kuina’s and her family’s sword. It is one of the twenty one O Wazamono grade swords (One Piece world). Sword - Hadhafang

Arwen's sword is called Hadhafang which means Throng-cleaver. It once belonged to the Elven princess Idril, who wed a mortal man and bore Earendil, the father of Elrond who in turn was father to Arwen. Before Arwen's birth Elrond wielded Hadhafang at the end of the second age of Middle-Earth, during the Last Alliance of Elves and Men in the great battle against Sauron. Later his daughter Arwen used Hadhafang when she aided Frodo in his escape from the Ringwraiths. Inscribed on the blade are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say "aen estar Hadhafang i chathol hen, thand arod dan i thang an i arwen." Which translates to "this blade is called Hadhafang, a noble defense against the enemy throng for a noble lady." The original inscription included the last line "Idril i hel en aran Gond dolen," which translates to "Idril, daughter of the king of the Hidden Rock (Gondolin)." It was dropped from the finished prop due to a lack of space. There is an intentional pun in the inscription - the Sindarin translation of "noble lady" is "Arwen", so in effect, the blade claims to be for Arwen, even though it was made for her grandmother. 16th Century Italian Cinquedea - Royal Armouries Collection

The cinquedea was a characteristic type of Italian broad-bladed short sword or large dagger, with this example in the Royal Armouries having a longer blade, dating to around 1500-1530. While Cinquedea were often carried as civilian sidearms, and some examples were highly decorated, this example is relatively plain and workmanlike, and could have been carried as a military sidearm by someone like an infantryman or gunner. The impressively broad blade of 26 inches has a complex transition from three down to two fullers, with a thin and distally tapered cross-section which make this a very light and fast weapon for the size. Our replica has faithfully copied all aspects of the form and statistics, the most interesting of which is the unique hilt construction. The ingenious and iconic guard design is fabricated of various components welded together, as in the original. The heel of the blade actually extends completely through the guard and is riveted to it (see photos). The blade heel and rivet heads are then ground flush with the guard and the whole assembly is polished. This method provides exceptional strength and durability. The blade also has a full profile tang, with hardwood grip scales and decorative brass filigree inlaid rivets. The sheath is made with a wood body and covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass chape that features ornate cut-outs and an acorn tip. At the throat, the leather extends upward and covers part of the guard at the ricasso. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, the original can be seen in the Royal Armouries Collection, Object Number IX.148. The Roman Army´s approach to warfare was direct and pragmatic. It chose the Gladius as its principal sidearm because it was practical and efficient and excelled in any close combat situation. Circa 750 The seax, or sax, was universal in Northern Europe. Carried and used by the Saxons, Angles, Vikings and German tribes, its use probably dates before the fall of Rome and continues on into the early Middle Ages. From small knives with 3-4 inch blades to actual swords with blades of 27-28 inches, always single-edged, the profile of the seax varied a great deal. The original version of this large knife served from camp work to cutting work, on shipboard, and for fighting if a sword or axe was not available. The lobed pommel and guard are brass, and the wood grip is studded with brass tacks, for a very secure and comfortable grip. The blade is etched on both sides, flat ground, and capable of taking and holding a razor sharp edge. The leather sheath has been riveted and laced like the originals and features two thong slots. Ulfberht Sword

An old legend has it that a Nordic smith named Ulfberht developed the first all steel blade. This crucial development achieved near-mythical status among warriors, making this one of the most important swords in the study of medieval weapons. Several of these blades from slightly different time periods exist, some engraved in gratitude and reference with Ulfberht's hallowed name. Prior to the Ulfberht swords, all European swords were of the pattern welded variety. Soft iron bars were welded together with strips of steel, forged into a blade shape, then a steel edge was welded onto the sword. But, the Ulfberht sword was a quantum leap in both technology and design. Not strips, but good carbon steel blades with enough carbon content to produce excellent swords. Not only was the material better, but the design of the sword was a definite improvement. The blade tapered more sharply to the point than did previous blades. This put the balance of the sword closer to the hand, making a sword that was faster on both the stroke and recovery than previous blades. The engravings on both sides of the blade were photocopied exactly. The blade is made of high carbon steel and is beautifully balanced. The grip is wood wrapped with leather. The stout crossguard is steel, and the pommel is of the brazil nut shape that was quite popular at the time, both with Vikings and the rest of Europe. A beautiful and important sword. Smaller kingdoms were swallowed up by larger, and larger kingdoms splintered apart. Due to this fairly colorful history, the Danes became known for some distinctive weaponry, of which this Danish Two-Handed battle ready Sword is an example. This medieval sword is classified as an Oakeshott Type XVIIIe, a very unusual member of the Type XVIII group. These two handed danish sword are some of the few that can be safely tied to a specific region. Type XVIIIe medieval swords have been found almost exclusively in Denmark. It is believed however that some examples may actually be German or Italian in origin. The unique and defining characteristic of this type of sword is its unusual narrowed ricasso.It features a long, stiff diamond shaped blade with an extremely long handle, making it suitable for cut and thrust swordplay as many other swords were in the later 15th Century. This short saber was introduced in 1767, preceding the French Revolution, as a replacement for heavier and cumbersome swords like the fusilier’s ēpēe. It was instantly derided for its modest dimensions and nicknamed “Briquet” (”fire lighter”) and the name stuck and became official in 1806. Excelling as a close-quarters and melee weapon, the slightly upswept blade could be used for slashing, but because of its length and thickness it was also an excellent stabbing weapon. An unusual single-edged arming sword of the mid-15th century, reputedly from the Castillon group of swords found in a nearby river and purchased by the Royal Armouries in 1984. Over 80 swords, as well as other weapons, were reputedly recovered from this one archaeological find, but this sword is without direct comparison in that group, having a distinctive hilt and very unusual single-edged blade. At first sight it looks like a regular double-edged arming sword with a central tip, but on closer inspection it has a single-edged blade, of wedge cross-section, having a false edge on the back of the blade near the tip. The blade is remarkably wide and thin, with a very acute edge geometry leading to a fine edge, sharing some physical similarities with other single-edged swords such as falchions. The crossguard quillons end in curled tips to retain an opponent’s blade, the asymmetrical grip is located towards the back edge, and the squat scent stopper pommel makes the short grip comfortable to hold. This sword could have been carried by any professional soldier of the late Hundred Years War, from a well-equipped archer to a man-at-arms or knight, or indeed as a civilian sidearm, perhaps with a buckler. Swords with comparable hilt forms are shown in art until the end of the 15th century. This sword feels very nimble, and it is deceptively light compared to its width, due to the thinness of the blade and distal taper.While it could thrust effectively against unarmored targets, it seems to be optimized for cutting, the tip being broader and the blade more flexible than a typical arming sword of the time.This replica is crafted with a better blade than the original; the blade is hand forged by an experienced, skilled blacksmith exactly in the same manner as the original, but with superior modern 1080 high carbon steel that is fully tempered and is distally tapered for proper weight distribution.The sheath is made to replicate one of the period, with a wood body and covered with leather. The original has resided in the Royal Armouries Collection since before 1916 and its exact origin before that is unknown, but it is part of an English group of similar swords. This family of swords, sometimes known as ‘Wakefield’ hangers, often feature beaked pommels and S-shaped hand guards. Some have an additional side bar or lug on the guard, as seen in this example. (Note: the lug on the original had been damaged and is bent upward, meaning it actually pokes into the hand. The lug is properly curved downward on our reproduction.) These short swords were popular sidearms for billmen and archers during the Wars of the Roses and into the early Tudor period. Thousands of swords like this would have seen action in battles like Towton, Barnet, Tewkesbury and Bosworth. This example features a deceptively complex and challenging single edge blade, with subtle transitions of cross-section and clever hollow grinding and a fuller to make it lighter. It has a graceful hollow ground front edge and a slender but strong point, with a thick spine able to deal with the rigors of fighting armoured opponents in jacks, mail and plate. The hilt provides a good level of hand protection for the time, for soldiers who were not generally wearing gauntlets. It ages beautifully and as the years pass it acquires an attractive brown patina, and it is unaffected by oil and solvents and impervious to water. Dryness might cause small cracks on the handle but they disappear when the knife is put to use again.We are persisting with the convex edge, since we consider this to be the ultimate combination of cutting performance and edge strength, and of course our NL5 Idun knife features this. Anyone who knows anything about knife making knows that such an edge can only be made by hand, and that’s why 99.99% of all knives don’t have that kind of edge. Knives in general are of course mass produced, where CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) robots and grinders shape the blades as best they can. The machines are loaded with stacks of blades so that production can go on 24 hours a day and the result is quite often really good – good knives at affordable quotes. However, if you want top-drawer strength, corrosion-resistance, edge durability and design, the machine hasn’t been made that can come even close to the craftsmanship of a trained, skilled knifesmith.
