Product information "Medieval Mace"
The mace is one of the toughest and most primitive weapons that accompanied man since prehistoric times. Sometimes they were used in ceremonies as symbols of power. It began as a very simple weapon, with a stone head that was sometimes polished, sharpened and carved.

The problem with early maces was that their stone heads shattered easily and it was difficult to fix the head to the wooden handle reliably. The Egyptians attempted to give them a disk shape in order to increase their impact and even provide some cutting capabilities, but this seems to have been a short-lived improvement.

They fell into disuse in the Greco-Roman period until the arrival of the barbarians who used them again, even with two hands.

It had its splendor again in the Middle Ages where they became specialized and metallic weapons. They become “parade” weapons, a ceremonial insignia and a symbol of power for both kings, emperors, and the high ecclesiastical hierarchy.

This excellent example has 6 flanges and is made from steel which has a rust-protective coating in black. The bottom of the shaft is wrapped in black leather for an improved grip.
