Gerrit and Andy, better known under the name of the YouTube channel Naturensöhne, inspire more than 460,000 followers on YouTube alone with their varied and entertaining content about bushcrafting, camping, hiking and equipment.
Already prepared more than two years ago we started working with the two Berliners on the conception of our own Naturensöhne knife. With your nomination for the 3rd season of the successful YouTube format 7 vs. Wild, in which seven teams have to survive in the wilderness with equipment of their own choosing, the requirements for our joint project have become even more stringent. Since all the equipment has to be accommodated together in a 1 L Nalgene bottle, we had to completely rethink the dimensions of the robust outdoor knife.
The result is the Naturensöhne MK. I: a special version of our successful outdoor/bushcraft model, the Boker Bronco. While the full-size handle securely encloses the full tang and ensures the usual excellent hand position and grip, the blade offers exactly what is expected of the most important tool for uncompromising outdoor use in 14 days Canada: exceptional edge retention, shock load tolerance, break elasticity and splinter protection. This is made possible not only by the powder-metallurgical CPM 3V blade steel, but also by the attractive Hardur premium coating, which is only used for high-quality cutting and punching tools. The approx. 5 µm thick layer of hard material, which also includes the cutting phase, increases the service life of the blade many times over and also ensures a surface with reduced friction . The advantages are obvious: the extremely sharp bevel requires no secondary phase. Especially when batoning, the Scandi shows very good splitting properties and high stability, since the entire blade strength is maintained over about 2/3 of the blade height. The resulting higher weight of the blade also offers more mass when chopping than a flat grind. The thermoplastic material TPE is used as the handle material. This is indestructible and, in addition to a perfect hand position, ensures the desired work safety both in dry and wet condition the most important tool does not fall by the wayside.
